Mintly is a Carbon Credit trading platform powered by land management data. This product began development after I joined Sensand as a developer driven project without design involvement for a period of time, however, as the Sensand team expanded, one of the designers on my team focussed on it and another devoted half of their time.

As the Head of UX and Design, I oversaw design decisions on the project and later, as the team shrunk, I became directly involved in the UI design.

Mintly was envisioned as a product that integrated closely with Blockbase, Sensand’s land management tool, and acted as a trading platform for credits based on that data. As such, Mintly was required to be both a trading platform and part GIS map based platform (geographic information system).

The below images showcase the main screen for browsing and searching credits by location, as well as how contracts are viewed—Many carbon credits are sold through projects linked to specific contracts.

The design system often revolved around creating elements that could work in dense table-like layouts or be equally at home in a tooltip or popup on a map screen.

Below is the Projects screen, showcasing how credits are browsed after purchasing, the Holdings screen, showing the user what they current or previously owned, and the wallet screen, Orders screen, showing what orders have been previously placed.

Prototypes

Numerous prototypes were developed and redeveloped in consultation with SME’s for Carbon Credit contracts.

Below shows a version of how someone might have engaged a contract that was listed for sale, as well as an overview of some other prototypes that were part of a specific release.

Design Systems

I oversaw the creation and maintenance of a design system that could be easily reused. In developing reusable components and styles, they needed to equally handle the need for a specific Mintly style, suited to it’s target market, while also allowing for the user of Blockbase content components. This was because data that was defined and displayed by 3rd parties and users in Blockbase, if attached to carbon projects, would be transferred to Mintly for inclusion.

Below you can see a birds-eye view of part of the component library, as well as an email design that utilises a similar set of Illustration assets to Blockbase and is designed to feel from the same family.
